Important Changes to Motor Vehicle Registration Fees – Effective January 1, 2026

WHAT HENNIKER RESIDENTS NEED TO KNOW:

The State of New Hampshire has officially passed its biennial budget and included in that legislation is a new statewide motor vehicle fee schedule that will take effect January 1, 2026. A copy of the new fee schedule is now available for residents to review.

January motor vehicle renewal notices will be emailed later than usual. Because the state fee schedule is changing, the update cannot be applied to renewal notices until after January 1. As a result, residents with January vehicle registrations should expect to receive their digital renewal notice in early January.

Residents with September, October, November, and December motor vehicle registrations are reminded that they must complete their renewal before the end of the year. Any December renewal processed on or after January 1 will be subject to the new 2026 state fees.

Additionally, online renewals for September, October, November, and December expirations will be turned off on December 24. After this date, residents with registrations due in those months will need to visit the Henniker Town Clerk, 18 Depot Hill Road, Henniker, NH, to complete their renewal.

For any concerns related to the state fee schedule, please contact the NH Department of Safety at (603) 227-4000.
