Dump stickers required to use this facility. Stickers available at the Transfer Station. Please bring proof-of-residence and $1.00.
As always, please ask an Attendant if you have any questions. For your safety and the safety of the Transfer / Recycling employees, do not enter the facility unless both gates are open or you have been authorized to do so.
Where can I get rid of leaves and grass clippings? The Transfer Station does not currently have a composting program. Also, it is against N.H. Dept. of Environmental Services rules to landfill or burn leaves at this location so we are providing the following information: Leaves, grass clippings, pine needles and garden wastes may be deposited at Stone Falls Garden Center just off Old Concord Road (just east of the access to Route 9/202 by Old West Hopkinton Road). Material may be dropped off any time of day, 7 days a week. PLEASE! No sticks, rocks, garbage, boxes or bags of any type. Thank you.

U.S. Flags: We collect worn out U.S. flags for proper disposal. The proper disposal technique for flags is to respectfully burn them. We place old flags on our brush pile fire after it is burning intensely and they are incinerated quickly and completely.

Alkaline Batteries may be disposed of in your regular trash. They are no longer considered hazardous (since 1996 mercury and cadmium have been removed from them). The only batteries we must separate are ALL rechargeable batteries, button cell batteries and lithium batteries. We have a completely free recycling program for rechargeable batteries and the small quantity of lithium and button cell batteries go with our household hazardous waste in the fall.

Cat Litter may once again be disposed of in the trash hopper rather than in the construction debris container. Aside from the additional cost associated with putting cat litter in construction debris, studies have been done indicating that is not be stirred up (as happens when we pack our debris container down). It contains pretty bad bacteria etc., so we feel that putting it in hopper and getting it offsite as soon as possible is best.

We here at the Henniker Recycling and Transfer Facility invite you to recycle using the following guide. Recycling is easy, painless and helps to reduce waste. As the market for recyclables is constantly changing, we hope you understand that these guidelines are also subject to change. Please don’t hesitate to ask an attendant if you have any questions.
We appreciate your input and constructive criticism in our efforts to constantly improve our facility and methods. The use of the transfer station and swap shop is a right of properly permitted citizens only.
See an attendant for purchase and placement of a windshield permit sticker for the cost of $1.
Recycled Items These items help to reduce the amount of solid waste we must dispose of. This reduces costs as we avoid a disposal fee and also may generate income as some of the recycled items are sold. Additionally, this reduces the amount of garbage we contribute to the incinerator and ash landfill, and this is better for everyone!
Aluminum: Cans. Beer and soda cans only.
Cardboard: Corrugated, milk/egg cartons, paper towel rolls, cereal/cracker boxes, pizza boxes, etc….Clean products only, please check to make sure cardboard is free from grease and other contaminants. Staples ok.
Paper/junk mail/magazines: Any paper product. Staples, cellophane windows in envelopes and shredded paper are accepted. Please box or bag.
Newspaper: boxed or bagged and separated from other paper.
Plastic: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7 containers and plastic grocery bags. Do Not need to be sorted by type. Please look for examples on the wall at the Recycling Center or ask an attendant if you have questions. It is important to rinse containers to prevent vermin or the items may not be recycled.
Tin Cans: Lids also accepted. Pet food cans and aluminum pie plates/foil. Please rinse or they may not be recycled.
Glass & Ceramics: Bottles (rinsed please), mirrors, window glass and ceramics. NO light bulbs or automobile glass. Please recycle with care to avoid shattering and posing a safety risk.
Leaves & Grass Clippings: Accepted at Stone Falls Gardens, please truck directly yourself to 184 Centervale Rd, off Old Concord Road, Henniker. Follow the posted signs for disposal area. Un-bagged and loose leaves, grass clippings, pine needles & soft plant material accepted year round. Please no brush, trees, shrubs or stumps. No plastic bags or construction debris. Light bulbs: Fluorescent & compact fluorescent bulbs only. Accepted at the Transfer Station and at Edmund’s Ace Hardware. 262 Maple St. Henniker, 428-3265 email: edmundsstore@conknet.com or visit the website www.edmundsstore.com Limit six (6) per household, per trip at Edmund’s (bulbs must have been purchased at Edmund’s).
Swap Shop: This is a community service for citizens to exchange clean, working and usable items at no charge.**Items that are Not accepted are clothing or cloth of any type, no car seats, knives, other sharp objects or ammunition. no food, no chemicals or paints, no TV’s or computer monitors, no microwaves, AC’s, dehumidifiers, or refrigerators, no broken, dirty or unusable materials and of course none of the recycled or disposal items listed in this pamphlet.
Batteries: Automobile (any lead-acid), lithium, rechargeable and Ni-cad (watch batteries, computer laptop batteries, etc.) Please see attendant for disposal instructions. Standard alkaline batteries can now go in the regular trash.
Cell phones: may be disposed of in the rechargeable battery bin.
Computer Monitors/TV Screens: Greater than 4 inches. $7 disposal fee
Motor Oil, Kerosene, Hydraulic Fluid: Not contaminated with gas, water or antifreeze. Please see attendant before dropping off.
Propane Cylinders:
1lb. tanks $1 disposal fee
20lb. tanks $2 disposal fee
30lb tanks $5 disposal fee.
Other Disposal Items
These items have special disposal requirements and do not go in the hopper.
Furniture: See an attendant for disposal and guidelines on breaking it down for proper disposal. Disposal fee applies for some items.
Burn Pile: Brush and clean lumber under 5 inches diameter. No painted, stained, pressure treated, glued or pressed boards. No Leaves or tree stumps…. NH State Law…..
Construction Debris: $25 disposal fee for a standard pick up truckload filled to water level. Other amounts of debris vary in price, please see attendant. Please remove all burnable non-contaminated wood for disposal in the burn pile for reduced cost.
Sheet rock & Asphalt Shingles: $50 disposal fee for a standard pick up truckload filled to water level.
Household Hazardous Waste: Collection day usually held in the fall, ask for details.
For the safety of citizens and attendants please carefully observe all posted signs and utilize designated parking areas only.
