In 1991, the Contoocook River became a designated NH river, ‘managed and protected for its outstanding natural and cultural resources in accordance with RSA 483, The River’s Management & Protection Act’. Upon designation, the Contoocook & North Branch Local Management Advisory Committee (CNBRLAC), containing state government officials and local citizens, was established.
