Water Department Update

The water department personnel along with its sub-contractors are busy with two major projects this summer. The first one is the repair of the Depot Hill water storage tank. It was built in 1914 and recently was found to be leaking. The water department right-of-way had to be upgraded to get the equipment in to do the job. Because it is earth-covered, we had to remove the dirt from around the tank and from on top of the tank and then the tank had to be drained and cleaned. Once that was done, Natgun Tank Systems came in and repaired the bad spots and coated the outside and inside of the tank with a waterproof sealer. Natgun is 80% done with their repair work. Once they are finished, the material will have to be brought back and the tank covered.

Next project is the replacement of 2,000 feet of water main on Western Ave between the Oaks and Liberty Hill Road. To date we have installed 1,200 feet of eight-inch pipe, one fire hydrant, four new house services, 60-feet of six inch pipe, 12 new gate valves and one two-inch blow-off. Also the crew has worked with the highway department to install a new catch basin and new drainage pipe in the area of the condos. Everyone is working very hard to complete the project in a timely manner.
